Coaching Philosophy
Hector Mercado, a former MLB pitcher from Puerto Rico, enjoyed four seasons with the Cincinnati Reds and Philadelphia Phillies. His career expanded internationally, competing in Japan and the Italian league. Transitioning into coaching, Mercado served as the pitching coach for the Houston Astros Gulf Coast league from 2010 to 2015. In 2016, he later joined the Philadelphia Phillies organization as a pitching coach. Currently he’s concluding his season as a personal pitching coach for New York Mets pitchers Edwin and Alex Diaz. With a profound understanding of developing and preparing elite pitchers for the next level, Mercado eagerly imparts his expertise to the next generation of young players. He’s ready to make Texas his home, bringing a wealth of professional experience!
